With his professional experience at Japanime Games and his own company Kids Love Tigers, we talk about the process and trials and tribulations of creating a board game world filled with miniatures.

Also included is our usual games played and Kickstarter roundup.

Unfortunately, due to a corrupted file and a crappily recorded back up, we lost about the last twenty minutes of the podcast. Luckily we made it through most of the meat of the podcast before this had happened.

First off, a HUUUGGEEE "THANKS!" to everyone, listeners and non listeners, we talked to, hung out with, met with, played games with, that took even a second of their time to say "Hey!" All of you made our first BGGCon an astounding good time.

We met, talked, and gamed with a lot of friends, new and old, and without all these amazing people in our board game community, we wouldn't have had the long, fun days that we did. Thank You!

This week's episode is just a very quick recap of our shenanigans, games we played, and people we met and talked with at BGGCon. We recorded in between Wash's busy work schedule and the holiday to get it out for you guys today.

Games Mentioned:

WWE Superstar Showdown, T.I.M.E. Stories, House of Borgia, Stronghold Second Edition, Porta Nigra Tiny Epic Western, Fury of Dracula, Ghostbusters, Resistor_, Noir, Trickster, Trambahn, Loop Inc., The Networks, Trickerion, Rhino Hero(This is the link to the regular version of Rhino Hero, not sure what the imported large version of the game is called.)

This week, High Heavens designer and publisher, Ryan Lesser joins us in our virtual studio! Not only is he now a board game designer, but Ryan's full time job is Art Director at the video game company Harmonix. So, needless to say, we were extra excited when we not only got to talk board games with him, but also some of my favorite video games, Freguency, Amplitude, Guitar Hero, and Beatles Rock Band!!!

With busy schedules this week, Wash and I at BGGCon as we speak, and Ryan Lesser spending his weekends shipping High Heavens to his Kickstarter backers, this episode is a little shorter than normal.

This week's episode marks two monumental milestones. The first is recording and publishing our twentieth episode this week. The second being the first time we've had four guests in our virtual studio at one time; bringing the total of six people on our podcast at the same time!

Unfortunately, the down side is that the sound quality did suffer a little. I tried to clean it up as best as I could, but my sound editing skills are still a little on the rough side.

This is our first time having this many people on at one time and it took a little bit of learning how to manage and handle that many people and still try to keep our conversational format.

I think it shows that we had a lot of fun recording together even with the technical difficulties and look forward to other collaborative projects in the future with the guys and gals of Tattered Board!

Board Games Mentioned:

Nothing Personal, The Grizzled, Pandemic Legacy, Game of Thrones LCG 2nd Edition, Warhammer 40,000 Conquest, Elysium, Kingdom Death Monster

Kickstarter Projects Mentioned:

We can barely contain our excitement this week. Entering our virtual studio is none other than Dice Hate Me's Chris Kirkman. He takes time out of his busy schedule of convention hopping and recovering from a nasty bug to sit down with us to chat about several different subjects including one of my favorite podcasts, his own The State of Games. Of course, we try to stay on topic as much as possible as we hit our normal Kickstarter roundup for our second segment.

The last segment of the podcast is a very informative comparison between the two Kickstarter campaigns for New Bedford. The first crowd funding attempt for it was cancelled as it struggled to find its footing. About six months later, the second campaign was more than an attempt. By the end of it, it had soared passed the $100,000 mark, quadrupling what it previously had done. We pick Chris's brain about the tweaks that were made and why he thought the second attempt was such a smashing success.

Games Mentioned:

Codenames, Stuff & Nonsense

Kickstarter Projects Mentioned:

Little Pig, Return To Castle Dicenstein, Latice, Greatest of All Mountains, Spirit Island, Avalanche at Yeti Mountain

Welcome 94'ers to another remote podcast episode. I had the pleasure of sitting down with one half of the owners of Cloud Cap Games, the Tattered Board Podcast, and several guests as we wind down from a long day of gaming during Cloud Cap Games GenCant festivities.

Unfortunately we did have some technical issues recording, but TC of Tattered Board was able to salvage a good chuck of it.

Thanks TC and gang for letting me sit in with them and the time it took to work your editing magic. Look forward to more joint podcasts in the future.

Jul 18, 2015

First I want to apologize for the lateness of the of this week's podcast. I know its only a day late, but I still hate being late for anything.

Second, I want to apologize for the reason its late. My mic apparently started crapping out part way through the episode and didn't realize it until post production. I spent a lot of time trying to bandage up this episode with my level one editing skills and I'm afraid it shows. The quality isn't up to its usual quality. (Not saying the regular quality of my editing is wonderfully great! =)) So hopefully the content makes up for the lackluster audio quality.

As soon as this is posted I'm hitting up Amazon to pick me up a new mic setup. Its been on my list, but wanted to upgrade my computer first to make editing a lot less painful.

So, on with the show notes!

We have a major announcement at the end of the podcast. We are teaming up with Artem Safarov for our first giveaway!! Here's the details:

I'm excited to announce my co-host Jason Washburn of Talon Strikes and I's first giveaway will be during the weekend of GenCant 2015! For those not in the know, GenCant is the Unofficial Unconventional Convention that coincides with Gen Con. This will be during the weekend of July 30th - August 2nd. BUT! Doesn't mean you can't start preparing for it now!

We are not alone in this endeavor. We've called on a couple of friends of the podcast to help us make this thing as big as possible. But, we will also need your help in doing so!

You see, we are in cahoots with, none other, than board game reviewer and designer Artem Safarov of Altema Games!

Art has a project on Altema's website called Board Game Habitat. I'll just let him explain it:

The purpose of this project is to have fun and find “natural habitats” for our favourite board games. It is meant as a collaborative project that many people can contribute to. The rules are simple – place a board game box in a setting that fits the theme of the board game and snap away! All quality images will be posted here with the credit given to the creator.

You can head to Board Game Habitat for examples and inspiration.

But that's not all who we're teaming up with for our first giveaway! The friendly folks at Cloud Cap Games of Portland, Oregon also are joining in on the action as they are the official sponsor of this giveaway.

James and Kirsten of Cloud Cap Games were nice enough to donate, not one, not two, but THREE Board Games as giveaway prizes!

They donated the frantic dice rolling game, Steam Park. Also, among the mix is the frantic, timed, cooperative game, Wok Star! published by Game Salute. And if that wasn't enough, our grand prize will be the hidden movement blockbuster game, Plaid Hat Games own SPECTER OPS!!

How do you get in on this amazing swag, you ask??!!

The Rules are simple!
1. Just follow the simple guideline for photo opportunity for Board Game Habitat:
Place a board game box in a setting that fits the theme of the board game and snap away!

Tweet the picture tagging @Ja_Hancock, @TalonStrikes, @CloudCapGames, and/or @ArtSafarov with the hashtags #BGHGiveaway #GenCant.

All submissions will be entered into the giveaway.
Winners will be hand selected by Artem, Wash, and I based on criteria:
Most original and best photos
Contest will run from July 30th- August 2nd

We will choose and post the Top 10 photos here by August 4th

People will be able to vote on them between August 5th and the 9th.

Top three pictures with the most votes will be announced on August 10th!

All quality submissions (not just the winners) will be posted on Altema's Board Game Habitat website with the credit given to the creator.

Be sure to tweet and share about this giveway to everyone and all your friends! If you have any questions you can tweet me (@Ja_Hancock) or Jason Washburn (@TalonStrikes) or Artem Safarov (@ArtSafarov) with your questions.
